More Updates!

Monday, June 9th, 2008

A host of changes for you today.

We’ve added functionality to allow you to quickly get to your lists (shopping lists/wish lists/product lists).  If your browser supports javascript then we have a dropdown on the “my lists” banner field (once you’ve logged in of course!) so you can jump straight to a list in the same way as the “add to list” dropdown functions on the product page.  Try it out and let us know what you think.

Prices are now clearer (we’ve added a big “buy” button next to them to make it crystal clear) - we hope…

Also we’ve listened to your comments and we now have more booksellers in our lists, and we try and show you their location (by suffixing their name with (US)/(UK) etc.) - see the fourth edition monster manual as an example of buy buttons and bookseller suffixing.  Again let us know what you think.

(Advanced) Dungeons and Dragons Fourth Edition is now out so check it out (here’s a link to my other blog entry where i was getting excited about fourth edition coming out and the bargains that were up for grabs on the players handbook and dungeon masters guidebook (and monster manual …)).  Reviews seem to be either really positive or really negative, so make up your own mind (personally i rather like it and it’s probably my favourite since 3rd edition came out).

There are also more region zero/0 (aka ABC or region-free) Blu-rays up for grabs and some of the prices of the imports are significantly better than the European versions.

Let us know what you think and happy Eweliking!

We’ve Moved!

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

You told us, and we listened: Ewelike was too slow for some of you so we’ve moved our hosting and we’re now running off some swanky new hardware.

This should improve everybody’s response times and allow better scalability when we’re under load.  Hopefully you’ll all like it!

We’re still bedding the new servers in, so let us know if you hit any snags or problems

Any comments, suggestions, questions then please let us know!

Region Free Blu-ray (aka bluray) discs

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Hello all,

We mentioned a few weeks ago that we were trying to provide a function so that you blu-ray fans could easily find region free blu-ray discs and buy them inexpensively, well beta version 1 is up and running!

Take a look at our list of region free blu-ray discs and tell us what you think.  If there are any incorrect entries in there then we want to know, and if you know of other discs that are region free then please let us know.

At the moment we’re showing the region free bluray discs in our standard layout - let us know if you think it would be easier to use in a different format.

Hope it helps (PS: if you don’t understand what Blu-ray is then see our Blu-ray guide or see our region coding guide if you need a refresher on Blu-ray Region Coding).

Region Free Blu-ray - better searching

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Thanks for the comments and requests regarding this subject.  We like our users to give us feedback on what to do next, so thank you.
Inline (with what quite a few of you have requested!) we’re adding a capability to Ewelike so you can easily find region free blu-ray discs.  That way you can source them from elsewhere and get them before the UK/European/Asian release dates (and just as importantly get them at a price you’re happy with).

We’re hoping to have some of this work completed as soon as possible, and as soon as we’re ready we’ll make an announcement here.

Expanding our RSS Feeds

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

we’re currently adding more RSS feeds to Ewelike (we’ll announce where next week when they start to trickle on to the live site) - that way you can use our site easier for your own mashups and sites.

Let us know if there’s anything specific you want us to add an RSS feed for.

Whoo! Prices are now easier to see

Monday, March 10th, 2008

We’ve added some more functionality this week, and we think you’ll like it.

Biggest item for feedback is the new price display (it now fades in and out to show it’s updated) - tell us if you like it or if it’s just plain annoying.

We added platform to make life easier!

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Thanks to all of you who told us you really wanted to see the platform in a prominent place when you’re looking at games (PC, Wii, Xbox, Playstation 3 etc.).  On the search page we now try and show the platform when it’s a video game.

Any more suggestions?

We’re dropping the HD-DVD chart soon

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Apologies to those of you that liked HD-DVD (and used the chart) but it now appears to be old news and so we’ll be removing it soon.

We may also change the name slightly for the Blu-ray chart (as it’s now the only high-def video format worth having) to help non-techy consumers, but all yours existing links direct into the chart will continue to work just fine.

As ever, if you disagree or want to comment on things then let us know.

We’ve improved the response times for price comparisons!

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Thanks (as ever) for all the feedback from users.  In response to your comments we’ve modified the price retrieval to be asynchronous (run in the background) when the page is loaded.  That way you can see all the product/review information while we calculate prices based on your preferences and show them on the page.

Site is now open to all for further testing

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Well it’s finally happened we’ve opened the site to all users.

betatesters: thanks again for your help, you’re logins now work with the signin” menu item. We’ve of course retained all your settings so you can continue to include/exclude currencies and stores that you love or loath.

As ever, we appreciate your feedback via the Ewelike Contact Form. Enjoy!
