Ewelike Holidays Site - Quick Improvements

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

It’s only been a day since we last posted and people have already requested things.

So, to answer those questions and fix those issues we’ve modified things;

  1. We’ve re-enabled the “region” drop down that was on the original alpha code - you can now select (for example) “best temperatures in the caribbean in October”
  2. The original example mockups showed the hosting countries currency code on it - that’s now back and we’ll take you direct our exchange rate partner (which incidentally we used the last time we left Heathrow on business - the money was there at the airport, we picked it up and flew off to Munich without a delay)
  3. The “Regions” have been added to each entry so you can more easily filter information.  Against the country that’s found we’ve added the Regions it’s in (for example the “St Kitts and Nevis” is in “Americas” and “Caribbean”).  Clicking on those changes your search to utilise that Region instead (so you can zoom in and out of countries and regions)
  4. We’ve changed the information-links to point to wikipedia until we can get better info ourselves.  This way you get great information and it’s free.
  5. If you’re the kind of person who likes their holidays/trips cold then we’ve increased the minimum temperatures that you can search with (for example here’s a list of places to go in September if you like temperatures between -5C and 13C)

Ewelike to support OpenID

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Here at Ewelike we like to make things easy for our users.  One of the trends (and requests) we’ve most often had is to support OpenID, well i’m glad to say we’re pretty near to making that happen.

For those of you that don’t know what OpenID is i’d suggest starting with their “what is OpenID” page.

We’ll announce once it’s in place (once we finish testing), but thanks to all of you that took the time to let us know your thoughts.  We like OpenID, geeks like OpenID and i’m pretty sure that soon it’ll be something that lots of people use. :)

Folio Society Search Seems to be a Winner

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Thank you all for your input and ideas regarding the Folio Society Used Book Search.  We now know what else you’d like to see for this function!  We’ll be working hard to achieve the changes over the next few weeks so your searches for Folio Society books become even easier for you.

We’ve also amended the examples on the page to add a few more classic authors to the list (we noticed quite a few of you were looking for good Folio Society editions of The Prince by Machiavelli (the root of the word/term “machiavellian”) and they all seem to have been sold!).  If you haven’t read it then you should, it’s a really easy to read book and extremely interesting.
As ever, if there’s any ideas you want to share with us then get in touch!

We’ve Improved the Ewelike Search Engine

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Well, straight after releasing the new Folio Society Book Search Engine we decided to release our updated search tool.

As you’d guess it’s generally available on the Ewelike homepage and elsewhere.

We now take into account as much as possible of the search words that you give us and look for the actors, artists/bands, directors, authors etc. as part of the search which gives you a much better chance of finding what it is that you want.

Take a look and let us know!  We’re always happy to get feedback!

More Updates!

Monday, June 9th, 2008

A host of changes for you today.

We’ve added functionality to allow you to quickly get to your lists (shopping lists/wish lists/product lists).  If your browser supports javascript then we have a dropdown on the “my lists” banner field (once you’ve logged in of course!) so you can jump straight to a list in the same way as the “add to list” dropdown functions on the product page.  Try it out and let us know what you think.

Prices are now clearer (we’ve added a big “buy” button next to them to make it crystal clear) - we hope…

Also we’ve listened to your comments and we now have more booksellers in our lists, and we try and show you their location (by suffixing their name with (US)/(UK) etc.) - see the fourth edition monster manual as an example of buy buttons and bookseller suffixing.  Again let us know what you think.

(Advanced) Dungeons and Dragons Fourth Edition is now out so check it out (here’s a link to my other blog entry where i was getting excited about fourth edition coming out and the bargains that were up for grabs on the players handbook and dungeon masters guidebook (and monster manual …)).  Reviews seem to be either really positive or really negative, so make up your own mind (personally i rather like it and it’s probably my favourite since 3rd edition came out).

There are also more region zero/0 (aka ABC or region-free) Blu-rays up for grabs and some of the prices of the imports are significantly better than the European versions.

Let us know what you think and happy Eweliking!

Region Free = Region Zero (or A, B, and C) Blu-ray discs

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

A quick clarification for you blu-ray users out there.  We’ve been using the term ‘Region Unlocked Blu-ray” and some users prefer it as ‘Region Free Blu-ray‘ or even ‘Region Zero / 0 Blu-ray‘…

We need to find out what’s clearest for you, so please let us know…

Until then if you’re a fan of cheap Blu-ray discs then this is the page you want: Region Free / Region Zero / Region 0 / Region ABC Blu-ray / Bluray

And if you still don’t understand the Region Coding for Blu-ray then hopefully our guide should help (but if not then i’m sure you’ll let us know :) )

We’ve Moved!

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

You told us, and we listened: Ewelike was too slow for some of you so we’ve moved our hosting and we’re now running off some swanky new hardware.

This should improve everybody’s response times and allow better scalability when we’re under load.  Hopefully you’ll all like it!

We’re still bedding the new servers in, so let us know if you hit any snags or problems

Any comments, suggestions, questions then please let us know!

Finding Shoes via Manufacturers

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Really quick post…

As we’ve been rolling out our changes to better support footwear (especially ladies’ footwear) we’ve been interested with what you have to say.  We’re now trying to make it easier by allowing you to specify manufacturer as well as the type of the shoe/boot.  For example try finding boots on ewelike.

Ladies if you have any more suggestions to make your lives easier then let us know (and we like the posts we get telling us the sheep is cute as well :) ).

Region Free Blu-ray - better searching

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Thanks for the comments and requests regarding this subject.  We like our users to give us feedback on what to do next, so thank you.
Inline (with what quite a few of you have requested!) we’re adding a capability to Ewelike so you can easily find region free blu-ray discs.  That way you can source them from elsewhere and get them before the UK/European/Asian release dates (and just as importantly get them at a price you’re happy with).

We’re hoping to have some of this work completed as soon as possible, and as soon as we’re ready we’ll make an announcement here.

We added platform to make life easier!

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Thanks to all of you who told us you really wanted to see the platform in a prominent place when you’re looking at games (PC, Wii, Xbox, Playstation 3 etc.).  On the search page we now try and show the platform when it’s a video game.

Any more suggestions?
