We added platform to make life easier!

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Thanks to all of you who told us you really wanted to see the platform in a prominent place when you’re looking at games (PC, Wii, Xbox, Playstation 3 etc.).  On the search page we now try and show the platform when it’s a video game.

Any more suggestions?

Search Ewelike direct from Internet Explorer or Firefox

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

We love our developers: they keep slogging away making Ewelike a little bit better every day.

Today, they added a bit of magic to help you kick-off a product search without having to navigate to ewelike.com first. It’s called OpenSearch and means Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 (or IE8) users can easily add Ewelike to their browser’s built-in search box. We’re sure it’s only a matter of time before Safari and Opera support the OpenSearch standard too.

The browser developers have done a really good job integrating OpenSearch - you can tell if a site supports it by checking whether the browsers search-box - probably positioned right next to the address bar - glows. If the search-box has a glowing magnifier, drop-down arrow or a glowing icon (probably the Google ‘G’ icon) - simply click on the glowing part, and you’ll be able to set the site up as another option to search.

It’s easiest to understand by seeing and doing: head on over to the Ewelike homepage, see the search-box glow and add Ewelike to your browser. It makes searching much more convenient - especially if you’re about to buy and just want a quick check to make sure you’re getting a good deal.

Ewelike for Mobiles & PDA (reminder)

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Evening all,

For those of you asking about the mobile edition of ewelike.com this is reminder that it’s inplace.

Any browser that appears to be from a mobile/PDA we automatically present the mobile site (tuned for easy reading on small screens and for lower bandwidth requirements) to you when you visit Ewelike.

Ash also recently added an option so you can swap to the “normal” version if you’ve got a good browser (that means you with Apple devices and those really nice Nokia N series phones).

Lastly, we’ve fixed some of the minor rendering issues that people were getting when using Blazer (on Palm OS).

As ever we welcome criticisms and suggestions alike - let us know what your thoughts are

We’re dropping the HD-DVD chart soon

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Apologies to those of you that liked HD-DVD (and used the chart) but it now appears to be old news and so we’ll be removing it soon.

We may also change the name slightly for the Blu-ray chart (as it’s now the only high-def video format worth having) to help non-techy consumers, but all yours existing links direct into the chart will continue to work just fine.

As ever, if you disagree or want to comment on things then let us know.
